There is a horizon in this piece that feels endless.

Open Water begins with a slow expansion of string-like synth textures, gradually opening into a hazy and luminous space. The sound blooms outward, becoming airy and almost choral in its upper register. High tones shimmer above the gentle motion of waves, creating a fabric of sound that feels both vast and intimate.

The ocean is not decorative here. It breathes within the composition. The waves move softly beneath the harmonic layers, grounding the ethereal textures in something tangible and lived. The production is carefully balanced. Warm midtones provide body, airy highs add lift, and a subtle bass foundation anchors the entire landscape without heaviness.

Horatio Stollmeyer’s story adds another layer of depth. Living aboard his sailing boat in Bremerhaven, recording his music at sea, he transforms the openness of water into emotional refuge. The natural recordings woven into the track feel authentic, almost documentary in their quiet presence. If you listen closely, you can sense the movement of real space behind the sound.

Liminal Currents’ ambient sensibility merges seamlessly with Horatio’s maritime world. Together, they craft a piece that embodies transition and stillness, echoing the calm that can only be found when surrounded by open water.
