The Moon Meets The Seven Sisters
Silvia Blaser, Nicosonoio
The first tones arrive on a gentle night wind.
Soft textures emerge almost imperceptibly before Silvia Blaser’s unmistakable flute enters, delicate and breath-like. Her melody seems to float rather than travel, settling naturally into Nicosonoio’s spacious ambient layers. Within moments, the music opens into something vast: a clear night sky, distant stars, and the feeling of infinite space stretching overhead.
That celestial image is not accidental. The piece was inspired by a real meeting in the night sky between the Moon and the Pleiades, the star cluster traditionally known as the Seven Sisters. When the artists recorded the piece, the sky itself was beautifully aligned with this image. The moment became inseparable from the music, to the point that listening to the piece still brings that particular night back to them.
This sense of wonder is carried through the arrangement with remarkable restraint. Soft pads provide warmth and spaciousness while leaving generous room around the flute. Silvia’s phrases rise gently through the textures, sometimes clear and intimate, sometimes seeming to disappear into the surrounding atmosphere. The dialogue between flute and electronics feels effortless.
The artists hope the listener might experience the piece without distraction, allowing time to slow for a moment. Listening this way reveals the subtle movement between sounds: the space surrounding each flute phrase, the slowly shifting textures, and the silences that give the composition room to breathe. Rather than depicting the night sky dramatically, the music recreates something of the feeling of standing beneath it.
Nature is central to both the inspiration and the emotional language of the collaboration. The artists describe feeling most connected to the world when they can simply stop and listen to wind, water, birds, or the sounds of night. Sometimes these environments enter their work through field recordings; at other times, it is the feeling left behind by those encounters that finds its way into the music.
The Moon Meets The Seven Sisters captures that feeling beautifully. It creates a space where the immensity of the night sky somehow becomes intimate, where stillness and wonder can coexist, and where the listener is invited to reconnect both with the world outside and the quiet within.
A deeply peaceful and beautifully healing work, whose gentle resonance seems to remain in the body long after the final notes disappear.
