Nefelibata
Vxbes
Nefelibata feels like somewhere to disappear for a while.
Warm synth pads slowly gather around the listener, while a soft bass drone provides a gentle sense of grounding beneath them. There is an immediate feeling of comfort in the sound: spacious, enveloping, and unhurried.
Delicate piano notes begin to appear within this warmth. They emerge softly, linger for a moment, and then dissolve back into the surrounding layers. Nothing seems to demand attention. The different elements simply drift in and out of focus, creating a tender soundscape that feels almost possible to curl up inside.
For Vxbes, that sense of freedom is closely connected to the meaning of the piece. Nefelibata recalls moments in his life when he allowed himself to create without boundaries, letting expectations fall away and becoming lost instead in sound, emotion, and instinct. That creative liberation gives the music an especially personal quality.
He hopes the piece can become something similar for the listener: a safe haven. A place to experience oneself without pretence or distraction, and perhaps to reconnect with the openness from which intimate creativity can emerge. There is something fitting about this idea in music that feels so accepting of space. It never tells the listener where to go; it simply gives them somewhere to be.
Another part of Nefelibata reaches back to Vxbes’ home of Puerto Rico. Surrounded by beaches, sunsets, and the richness of the island’s natural environment, he gathers field recordings during his journeys and incorporates them into his work. His gratitude for that landscape becomes another quiet layer within his musical identity, allowing fragments of the places around him to travel into the sound.
Perhaps this is what makes Nefelibata feel so comforting. Beneath its pads, drones, and fading piano notes is an idea of freedom: to wander, to create, to feel, and simply to exist for a moment without boundaries.
A beautifully warm and intimate ambient piece, gentle enough to become a refuge and spacious enough to dream within.
