Submersion
Tapani Rinne, RA-UL
Submersion is an ambient jazz composition born from the first collaboration between Tapani Rinne and RA-UL (Lauri Heiskanen), where layers of soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, and analog synthesizers interlace like beams of light dancing beneath the surface of the water.
Submersion creates a sonic space that evokes the boundlessness of the ocean and the weightlessness found in its embrace: the sound moves through the water like an invisible current, carrying the listener toward a deeper state of serenity.
Rinne’s signature saxophone and clarinet playing style and RA-UL’s minimalist synthesizer textures shape a work in which haste dissolves as the space around the listener expands, and movement transforms into a feeling of calm. In the background, nature soundscapes recorded by Lauri on the shores of the Arctic Ocean add natural depth and further weave the work into a marine environment.
Tapani Rinne is a Finnish musician, composer, record producer, and sound designer known for his experimental and innovative approach to clarinet and saxophone performance.
RA-UL, real name Lauri Heiskanen, is a Finnish ambient and new age composer and producer who creates nature-inspired, calming soundscapes where musical elements, space, and the natural world intertwine.
